Tibetan hospitality for over 20 years:
Founded in 1997, the first and only Tibet Restaurant is now based
on the Waehringerguertel, next to the Vienna Volksoper.
The name “Songsten Gampo” of the restaurant was given by His Holiness the XIVth Dalai Lama and refers to the respected 33rd King of Tibet, who has contributed a lot to the country:
He founded the Tibetan Empire, introduced Buddhism to the country and was also responsible for the creation of the Tibetan Alphabet. The famous Potala Palace, which is the resident of Dalai Lama and also a World Heritage Site, was built in 637 by him as well.
From the beginning the Tibet Restaurant represents the unique Tibetan way of life:
A place with a Tibetan touch, where you can chat and celebrate, a fine menu, selected teas and music from Tibet.
And of course the original interpretation of the Momo.
The vision is to provide the guests with a familiar place in the city, where they can free themselves from everyday stress and materialism in order to focus on the essentials of life, especially health.
For several years we serve traditional Tibetan food as well as cuisine from the Himalayan regions, prepared according to the knowledge of Tibetan medicine. You will also find the largest tea selection in Austria!
Our motto: From Tibetans – With Tibetans – For you!
